Foreign Minister Ammar Amum, accompanied by Dr. Alaa El-Din Awad Naqd, discussed with Mr. Korbandi an assessment of the latest round of talks and the differences in views within the Committee of Five Mediation Bodies.
Mr. Korbandi provided a detailed account of the Committee’s recent visit to Sudan and its meetings with various stakeholders. He stressed that the main objective of these efforts is to establish direct dialogue with all components of the Sudanese population across the country.
The National Unity Government reaffirmed its commitment to a comprehensive and democratic solution.
Foreign Minister Ammar Amum welcomed the efforts of IGAD and the Committee of Five Groups, while expressing the reservations of the National Unity Government and the Sudanese Founding Alliance regarding unilateral and superficial initiatives. According to him, such initiatives offer no real guarantees of political participation and fail to address the root causes of the conflict.
He emphasized that any successful political process requires complete impartiality from mediators and equal treatment of all parties to the conflict and all regions of Sudan.
