Through the initiative of his majesty King Mswati III, Eswatini has launched an ambitious program of building social houses meant for vulnerable families, to elderly people and people with disabilities . This royal initiative, implemented in partnership with the government, the national agency (NDMA) and the armed forces, aims to provide a decent housing for those who need it the most.
During his visit to Madlangemphisi Inkhundla in March 2025, The king had initially pledged 10 houses for elderly people. However, assessments revealed that more families were living in precarious conditions, prompting the program to be expanded to 18 homes to reach more vulnerable households. This decision reflects the sovereign’s pragmatic and inclusive approach, placing human dignity at the hearth of his vision for national development.
The implement of this project relies on a close collaboration among several institutional actors. Three houses have been financed by the government through the national agency NDMA, while the fourth house was supported by Eswatini National provident funds (ENPF). The armed forces were also mobilized to accelerate the construction and ensure the quality of the infrastructure, demonstrating therefore a whole-of-state mobilization around this social priority.
The Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla, representing the king during the official handover of the keys, has highlighted that this initiative is part of the « Housing A Human Security For All » that redefines the housing as a central social institution for inclusion, health and opportunity. « The government has prioritized the secure housing for the elderly people and the people with disabilities in order to guarantee that development is rooted in the dignity and accessibility » she declared.
This initiative is followed by other structured measures. During the opening parliamentary session in 2025, the King Mswati III had announced an increase in the allowance for the elderly people and reaffirmed the commitment of the government to provide decent
