Three years after the August 2023 military intervention that brought an end to the Bongo family’s rule and brought Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to power, Gabon is celebrating the third edition of its Liberation Day. Declared a national public holiday in 2024, the date marks a political turning point for the country.
In his address, the head of state reaffirmed his commitment to continuity of government, respect for freedoms, and the pursuit of reforms deemed essential.
The executive branch is emphasizing the need for sincere dialogue between institutions and the population. To put this commitment into practice, the president used the commemorations to officially announce the allocation of several major budgetary packages.
The measures primarily target the public healthcare sector, which is facing significant structural challenges.
The government is therefore allocating a total of 55 billion CFA francs to healthcare facilities. The largest allocation, amounting to 44 billion CFA francs, will go toward modernizing and strengthening medical infrastructure and equipment. In addition, 6 billion CFA francs has been earmarked for reopening catering services in hospitals.
Finally, the National Health Insurance and Social Guarantee Fund (CNAMGS) will receive an allocation of 5 billion CFA francs to support healthcare coverage for users.
